The United Nations has hailed the relief efforts of Pakistan peacekeepers, who rescued over 2,000 people stranded due to heavy floods in Uvira region of South Kivu in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

In tweet, the spokesperson of the body wrote: Pakistan is among the top contributors the UN peacekeeping operations around the world.

As per UNHCR, floods in DRC have affected over 80,000 people and killed dozens. Over 15,000 homes were damaged due to the floods while a full-scale assessment underway by authorities and humanitarians, reports of more devastation are still coming in from this region, already the hardest hit by years of insecurity and conflict.
